ABOUT FORMULA ARENA

The Idea

Formula Arena started with a simple question: what if aiming in a shooter wasn't about reflexes, but about understanding curves? In most games, a "skill shot" means milliseconds of timing. In Formula Arena, a skill shot is a well-chosen function — a parabola tuned to drop exactly behind a wall, or a sine wave threaded through a narrow gap.

The result is a real-time multiplayer arena where up to 8 pilots battle by writing mathematical expressions. Every round is a small engineering problem: read the terrain, model a trajectory, and commit before the 45-second timer runs out.

Learning Disguised as Combat

We believe graphing functions is genuinely fun once you see them move. Formula Arena players develop an intuitive feel for:

• Linear functions — slopes, angles and direction of travel;
• Quadratic functions — how coefficients shape the height and reach of an arc;
• Trigonometric functions — amplitude, frequency and phase of waves;
• Function composition — combining curves to produce entirely new paths.

Students use it to make graphs click; veterans use it to flex creative trick shots. Either way, no one leaves the arena without a better feel for mathematics.

The Technology

Formula Arena is a browser game built with HTML5 Canvas, Node.js and WebSockets (Socket.IO) for realtime multiplayer. It runs on desktop and mobile with no download or installation. A custom, safely sandboxed math expression evaluator parses every formula on both client and server, so what you see in the trajectory preview is exactly what happens in the arena.

Matches support live players and AI bot pilots, private rooms with join codes, a global leaderboard, pilot levels and unlockable cosmetics.

The Developer

Formula Arena is designed and developed by Liem Dang, an independent game developer. The project is actively maintained — new maps, formula tools and game modes are on the roadmap.
